Gooo Atkiiiins!!!

My progress so far hasn't been extremely impressive when I think of how much effort I have put in. I have lost 7 pounds and 6 inches (around my waist) but it has taken 5 weeks. Because of this slow weight losing progress I've decided to go Atkins. I've been lurking and reading about this diet/life style for over a year now and I must say that it makes a lot of sense from a chemical perspective. So sure enough I went to the health store today and bought a big load of Atkins diet products (the man behind the till looked very happy when I paid, he-he). I have to say that I was amazed how good some of these products tasted. One thing I fancied the most was this crunchy chocolate bar that was impessively delicious and it only contained a net of 2 g carbohydrates... I can definitely live with this type of diet. And as I am writing this post I've put to beefs to marinate in a garlic type sauce (yummy) and which shall be served with steemed broccoli and fried bell peppers. No more fast carbohydrates for a long, long while, only some few slow acting carbs, he-he.

The Lake at Fjällnora

The lake at Fjällnora where I went ice skating today.

It has been rather cold in Scandinavia lately. Around Uppsala the temperatures have been down to minus 33 degree Celsius. Some other places in Sweden and Norway the temperatures have dropped to almost minus 40. The only good thing with such low temperatures is the generation of ice on the lakes, as I do love to go ice skating. It's so much fun.

Training Is Going Well

Fjällnora outside Uppsala ca. 6.30 am today.

My body is really getting a hard pounding these days. During the last fortnight I've been doing more excercise than what I've done over the last year! Today, I surprised myself by driving out to a frozen lake before 6 am to go ice skating. They have plowed a long & broad track on the lake making skating really enjoyable. I realised it has been a while since I've been skating because my legs got tired rather quickly, but it was a marvelous experience, and I worked up a decent sweat as well, he-he.

I am still standing, but I'm standing still....

Look at this graph.. it shows my weight development over the last 5 weeks..my weight is now standing still at 187 lbs while I'm losing inches around my waist indicating that I'm building muscles. In other words: not all that bad.

Today, I had planned to measure my waistline again but it wouldn't have been scientifically fair since I was rather bloated, so I decided to postpone it to tomorrow.

Blubberman And The Dark Side

Blubberman has been observed in Mordor (a recent photo)....He looks pretty innocent on this photo but under that boyish exterior beats the heart of an overeating maniac!

It's Just Another Manic Monday..

"Be brave and mighty powers will come to your rescue" - J. W. Goethe

I now feel that I'm really on the verge to get rid of my pot belly (once and for all hopefully) and it is a good feeling. It is something that I thought would not come to me. I quickly gained weight after I ended my time in the Army and have more or less stayed in the overweight/obese zone. Today, I'm following the narrow path of a healthy diet and very much physical training. For the first time in my life I'm actually concerned about what kind of food items I introduce to my digestive system.

Over the last week I have also doubled my amount of cardio-vascular training and today is a good example as I was at the gym already at 7 o'clock in the morning. I started out running 8 km (ca. 5 miles) on the treadmill before lifting some iron (shoulders, breast, arms) and finally had a go in the pool. In other words 2 hours effective training, before I went to work.

My lunch was a bit heavy today but I think I'll get away with it. I went to a bit more fancy restaurant together with an English colleague of mine and his Swedish friend. They served a warm buffet ("eat as much as you like") and the food there is pretty good so I ended up serving myself more calories than I wanted to ingest, but what the heck...as I said I think I can take it now without expand too much. Luckily, I managed to stay away from the cakes and biscuits though (thank heavens!).

Tomorrow i'll return with the "tale of the tape" once again...

I would like to thank for the support I have received from fellow bloggers.

The Waistline Story

Current waistline measure: 38.6''/99 cm, lost a total of 5.9''/16 cm.

I just "taped" myself, my waistline has dropped another 2 cm since yesterday and the measurement is now impressive 38.6''/99 cm (woohoo first time below 100 cm). The cold facts tell me that I have lost a total of 5.9''/16 cm since the start!!

Blubberman Is Going Down Now...

Collage: Some Infamous Representatives of the Dark Side

Blubberman, an unsympathetic fellow who belongs on the Dark Side together with several of the most notorious and infamous evil persona yet known (represented by people like Lord Voldemort, Draco Malfoy, Gollum, Darth Vader, Dr. Evil, Dracula, Saruman and Sauron), is finally going down! He surely has tried and tried but I have managed, with the support from fellow bloggers (Alex, All Of Me, Steven, Fatty For Now, eLaine, Rosina) and a strong personal resolve to push him back inch by inch and pound by pound. A major catalyst in the process is that I'll turn 40 years old in some few years (Yes Jarle your existence on planet Earth as we call life is soon over, and it happened quite fast didn't it?). It was therefore now or never! I don't want to be forty, fat and finished, I want to be fit and feeling good and hence Blubberman had to go... and there is only slim chances that he can win now.

This day has been another splendid one concerning my weight loss. First I started out burning 683 kcal on the treadmill (1 hr jogging) before continuing training with weights (legs mostly). And like yesterday I put a trip in the swimmingpool into the bargain. For lunch I treated myself with a nice portion of sushi. It's amazing what training can do to you. I feel much better mentally as well as physically and my old trousers fit me now (which they haven't done since the beginning of December!!)...and today I bought new ones, woohoo!!

Something Is Rotten In The State of Norway

"Norway has the highest percentage of overweight men in Europe, according to a new report by the World Health Organizaiton (WHO). The report indicates that more than half of all Norwegian men are too fat." says Norway's largest serious newspaper "Aftenposten".

You can read the whole depressing article here (in English).

Weight Profile

The graph shows my weight profile since the weight loss began 4 weeks ago. It looks rather promising right now. I just hope I don't get a setback like the one I had two weeks ago. That was a tough experience. However, the more informative parameter is the waistline measurement as this has revealed a substantial decrease in spite of slow weightloss. I'm glad I started to record it or else I would have been very frustrated by now.

Oh yeah, I think I deserve those trousers!

Nice Progress

I have just been a trip on the scaly-laly and I'm now only 187 lbs! Two pounds down over the last week. And the tape revealed that I'm now 101 cm/39.4'' around my waist, it's really going fast now. Later today I'll celebrate this progress with a new pair of trousers.

Poundfighter, Heaven Restores You In Life!

This has been an even better day in my weight loss struggle so far (and considering how well I did yesterday this is nothing less than impressive to be me). On the training today I started out with 25 minutes nordic power walking followed with 45 minutes weight training and subsequent 2.5 mile run on the treadmill. But hey, it was not over yet, I went swimming for another half an hour...I amazed myself and I feel great today. My calorie intake so far is also rather low, about 1000 kcal, which is pretty nice when the time is now almost half past four.

My weight is still the same 189 lbs, but I've lost another 2 cm's of the waistline making it 103 cm/40.2''. I feel that I'm in a good period right now..

A Classic

Who doesn't remember the rather funny dialog following Dr. Evil hints to Austin about Fat Bastard's "horizontal jogging" in bed with Felicity (from the movie: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)), upon which Austin confronts Felicity with these allegations:

Austin: How could you sleep with Fat Bastard?
Felicity: I was just doing my duty, Austin. I had to.
Austin: No, I mean, literally, HOW could you sleep with him? He's so fat! The mechanics of it is just mind-boggling!

Okay, okay, this is the last reference to those silly Austin Powers movies, I promise.

Thanks To All Of Me

The more perceptive of you may have noticed and perhaps been irritated over the spelling mistake I made in title ("loosing" instead of "losing"). Well, All Of Me (thank you) helped me with this and I promise that I'll be using the correct word from now on. English is not my mother tongue so I hope you guys will bear with me. I'm improving my English skills day by day.
